This practical course supports delegates in identifying the strengths and weaknesses of their departments and offers suggestions on how to make improvements. It focuses on the role a Head of English plays in producing an effective department: Interpersonal skills; ways of supporting staff; keeping up to date with curriculum developments; time management and administrative efficiency are all explored.

Natalie has wide-ranging experience of teaching English across the ability range with 12 years’ teaching experience in comprehensive schools.
She has worked with a range of exam boards such as AQA and OCR and has proven success at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 in English Literature, English Language and Media Studies. Natalie has previously been a Head of English in an 11-18 comprehensive school during which time her experience included preparing the English Department for a five day Ofsted inspection; Ofsted rated Natalie’s leadership/management of the English Department as “excellent”.
Natalie currently teaches in a HPSS school and is working with other English Departments as part of the Raising Achievement Partnership School status which the school holds. This involves developing innovative practice in teaching and learning within English. Natalie has completed an M. Ed Leadership and Management module focusing on NQT Induction, and is currently completing an MA in Teaching and Learning.
