This course will cover the practicalities of Oxbridge and other Competitive University Applications: Medicine, Law, Veterinary Science and Dentistry. Advice will be given about all stages of the preparation process: enrichment activities, the application, writing effective personal statements, writing references which meet the expectations of universities, supporting and preparing students for interview. Delegates will leave with a set of ready to use PowerPoint presentations which covers the whole of the process and can be used with students and teachers.
Aims of the course are to:
• Communicate a secure knowledge of the practicalities of Oxbridge and other competitive applications
• Equip delegates to improve their own provision by providing ready to use resources
• Meet the needs of those new to supporting students with competitive applications but also offer new strategies to those familiar with the process

Stephen has been responsible for UCAS, including Oxbridge, at a comprehensive school. He was an Open University Tutor in Education for 14 years and Editor of ‘Social Science Teacher’, the journal of the Association for the Teaching of Social Sciences for eight years. He has delivered INSET training on preparing students for competitive courses and university application to Higher Education Co-ordinators and Heads of Sixth Form at national conferences, as well as providing INSET for teachers and students in their institutions.
Stephen has written regularly for the Times Educational Supplement and other publications.
