This one-day course enables participants to understand what challenges may arise when working with pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Primary Schools, and how they can be best approached. It explains how to support pupils with ASD and how to anticipate, avoid and manage what can be problematic, even challenging behaviours.
The day gives primary colleagues an understanding of ASD, its aetiology, prevalence and presentation. A workshop with case studies gives participants an opportunity to practice assessing problem behaviours - and to devise appropriate and effective strategies and approaches for use with pupils with the condition. The emphasis is on the needs of ASD pupils and appropriate support and problem solving - both in the classroom and during unstructured periods at break and lunchtime.
