The course will offer an introduction to A Level Media Studies and will provide an overview of the principles central to the subject, both in terms of course content and in preparation for assessment. An overview of each awarding body’s requirements for 2008 will be presented and the content of the day will cover areas common to each specification.
Media concepts will be introduced and practical advice will be given in using the concepts as a central body of knowledge which can be applied to a range of media texts and forms.
The day will end with a look at the differences between AS and A2 and some practical advice on supporting a more contextualised and theoretical approach.
Aims of the course are to:
* Provide an introduction to the basic structure, content and assessment needs of Media Studies
* Support an understanding of the conceptual knowledge required by the subject and its practical use
* Provide practical advice, classroom resources and activities to support the planning and delivery of the subject
* Aid understanding of the difference between AS and A2
