The whole school has a responsibility towards including and making provision for pupils with special educational needs. This practical course identifies the roles of all involved, and also supports schools by providing handouts and information to enable maximum support. It will outline the role of senior management team to ensure maximum support for pupils and the responsibility of the SENCO is established It defines exactly what is meant by ‘special educational needs’ (SEN) and provides checklists to raise awareness and ensure early identification and is a valuable insight into working with pupils with SEN in mainstream primary schools. Aims of the course • To provide an overview of the SEN Code of Practice: the implications for schools and define roles and responsibilities towards pupils with special educational needs. • To examine ways to ensure early identification of pupils with special educational needs and discuss ways of accommodating those needs in the classroom: strategies, techniques and resources. • To ensure effective deployment of teaching assistants for pupils with special educational needs • To describe ways to monitor assess and keep records for pupils who have special educational needs. • To ensure that Teachers need to be aware of the appropriate approach and strategies in order to deal effectively with SEN pupils.
