Teaching assistants will have the benefit of advice and support on understanding the complex issues surrounding gifted and talented education. This will include some training on 'challenge' for able learners in the day to day classroom. Course participants will also explore some common issues connected with underachieving able pupils, both identifying issues and taking action.
Central to the course will be advice on the kinds of roles teaching assistants would need to adopt to facilitate the learning of very able pupils. By the end of the day, it will be possible to gauge what good practice might look like in terms of effective TA support for gifted and talented pupils and how the whole school can benefit too.
