Support staff play a vital role not only in supporting the teaching professionals, but often they provide a listening ear for troubled children. This frequently places pressure on them as they feel they need to know more about the issues troubling young people and how to help.
The main concerns coming from support staff are usually, "Am I doing it right?" or "Will I make it worse?" This one day course outlines the issues and will build confidence in helping non teaching professionals in helping the young people in their school meet their learning potential. You will be working in groups for part of the day on the issues likely to affect young people, and clear guidelines will be discussed. There will be time for you to discuss your needs and concerns about helping young people and, where practical, proven help will be offered.
