The course is designed to examine the new focus for coursework of controlled assessment and the impact on departmental performance at Key Stage 4. We will review the requirements for controlled assessment and ways to improve the quality of provision and practice of this vital part of Key Stage 4 for examination performance and prioritise key areas for action.

The tutor will provide fresh ideas on how to boost performance in controlled assessment in Geography. It will provide hints, tips and practical advice on all aspects of the fieldwork in Geography, but also focus on strategies to maximise the performance of writing up the controlled assessment and ways to ensure that all examination conditions are met. The tutor will address what needs to happen to ensure that the controlled assessment has a positive impact for the department (motivational and achievement focused) as well as overall GCSE results.
