Research suggests that sustainability is developed most effectively in schools when it is placed at the heart of the School's Improvement Plan and is reflected clearly in the schools vision. The purpose of this course is to help schools incorporate sustainability into their thinking and planning by following a very strategic plan. The course will identify different strands of sustainability work using the NCSL National Framework and assist schools in identifying what has already been done, what is possible to do in the short term and, more significantly, how to plan the longer term needs and possibilities.
Curriculum work will be a key part of the presentation and community cohesion will feature as the work done lends itself very well to the wider community. Assistance will be given to delegates - regardless of their roles in schools - to assist them to advise the school management about allocating responsibilities for sustainability as well as giving them the planning tools to develop a commitment to care within the school ethos. A totally integrated approach will be modelled for delegates to take back to their schools.
