Since November 2010 all schools have to demonstrate compliance with the new Single Equality legislation. This means that, as well as continuing current work on gender, race and disability, schools will now have to demonstrate how they are including young people and staff under eight protected characteristics. This is a massive change for schools, and support to implement these changes has been widely different across the country.
This practical course will focus on building a strong, usable Single Equality Scheme for your setting which is fully compliant with legislation and OfSTED requirements. It will lead you through a model for consultation to ensure that your policy is pupilfocussed and accurately reflects your school or college's individual needs. The afternoon will focus on practical models and strategies for implementing the changes necessary to demonstrate that you are compliant with the new legislation.
