This course will focus on assessment of, and for, learning. Participants will learn what inspectors consider is good assessment practice and will investigate significant research findings. They will examine assessment at Key Stage 3 through activities designed to enhance familiarity with the Attainment Target. Participants will also have the opportunity to think about the range of data available to them and how best to monitor students’ progress. Key features of assessment for learning will be introduced and placed in a classroom context.

The aims of the course are to:
• know what OfSTED consider as good assessment practice in geography
• know what research says about good assessment practice
• develop greater familiarity with the Geography Attainment Target at Key Stage 3
• be aware of the range of data available and how it can be used
• understand how to monitor pupils’ progress effectively
• understand what assessment for learning is and how to integrate it into departmental practice
