Active listening is a powerful tool. It involves accurate perception and memory. However this is not enough to interpret meaning which relies on the more subtle interaction of verbal and non verbal communication. This course is crucial if you are to appreciate what people really mean. You will then be able to use that knowledge and understanding to help them and yourself to realise your full potential. There are differences between listening and active listening. Active listening requires self awareness and acceptance. It means that you will need to break down the skills and techniques involved and apply and adapt them to your own use and situations. ‘You are listening to me when you come quietly into my world and accept it and me. You are not listening to me if you say you understand me before you know me well.’
